Glo Premier League Preview 2009/2010: Round 3

4002860027_d7548eccd2_oGradually, the men are separating themselves from the boys and the Glo Premier League is beginning to shape up. Week three will bring some exciting match-ups. Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, Berekum Arsenals, Real Tamale United and Heart of Lions are going to go into Round 3 with a lot to prove.  They all need wins to cement their places as some of the best teams in Ghana. Could this be the first game in which Accra Hearts of oak will score? Could this be Olympics’ first win? Will Kotoko fall at Lencay?

OHENE DAN: Hearts of Oak-Kessben FC

Kessben FC have not played away from Kumasi. We are not aware whether they can reproduce their form outside Kumasi. Hearts of Oak are in terrible shape and do not appear capable of halting Kesben’s winning run.

Form (Hearts of Oak): L L

Form (Kessben FC): WW

Hearts players to watch: Osei Bonsu, Karim Alhassan, Torric Jibril

Kessben players to watch: Prince Attakora-Gyimah, Richard Mpong, James Buadu

Prediction: Hearts of Oak 1:2 Kessben FC

BABAYARA: King Faisal-Hasaacas

I expect this one to be a titanic encounter. Hasaacas have not impressed me away from home, while King Faisal have also not been good performers. Both teams however come into this game with renewed confidence, having won their last games. If they find their scoring boot, Hasaacas are capable of defeating King Faisal who seem to be finding Isaac Boateng’s tactics difficult to adapt.

Form (King Faisal): L W

Players to watch (King Faisal): Prince Akrong, Frank Acheampong, Ofosu Mickey

Form (Hasaacas):  D W

Kessben players to watch: Joseph Ato Bissah, Abraham Annan, Prince Attakora-Gyimah, Richard Mpong, James Buadu

Prediction: King Faisal 1:2 Kessben FC

KPANDU: Heart of Lions-New Edubiase FC

Heart of Lions will want to quickly put the 2-3 defeat they suffered at Essipon behind them. That was some early reality check dished to the league favourites by Hasaacas. New Edubiase may want to take advantage of the  deflated ego of the Lions, but it will be an uphill task.

Form (Heart of Lions): W L

Form (New Edubiase FC) form: X W

Heart of Lions players to watch: Steven Ahorlu, Tanko Mohammed, Kofi Nti-Boakye

New Edubisase players to watch: Aaron Amoah, Collins Addo (GK), Ibrahim Morro

Prediction: Heart of Lions 3:0 New Edubiase FC

TAMALE SPORTS: Real Tamale United-Aduana Stars

RTU would have a lot of pressure on them going into this game. Their fans cannot stomach any more abysmal performances and are demanding wins or heads must roll. Aduana Stars have on the other hand proven to be a tough team to handle. With both teams in dire need of a win, I tip the more hungry RTU to take advantage of their  fortified home grounds.

Form (RTU) form: D L

Form (Aduana Stars): D D

RTU players to watch: Baba Iddi,Owusu Apomah, Abdul Salam

Aduana Stars players to watch: Nurudeen Ali, Emmanuel Allan, Richard Addae

Prediction: Real Tamale United 2:1 Aduana Stars

CARL REINDORF: Liberty Professionals-Bechem Chelsea

Liberty Professionals has all the potential to annex the title this season, but somehow they find themselves struggling. However, they can turn on the style and give Bechem Chelsea a good beating. I am yet to be impressed the away performances of the Bechem team. It almost impossible for Bechem to beat Liberty at home. Their best will be a draw.

Form (Liberty): X D

Hearts players to watch: Richard Kissi Boateng, Latif Salifu, David Kabou

Kessben form: L W

Kessben players to watch: Prince Attakora-Gyimah, Richard Mpong, James Buadu

Prediction: Liberty Professionals 4:1 Kessben FC

GOLDEN CITY: Berekum Arsenals-All Stars

I would have easily tipped Berekum Arsenals to carry the day but their recent performances have not convinced me. All Stars have signed a new coach in the person of ex-Internatonal Maxwell Kunadu. The outcome of this game is going to signal the quality Kunadu will bring to the game. His team has managed only one goal in two matches. We all await with anticipation how they will manage to beat Arsenal in their fortified home grounds.

Form (Berekum Arsenal): D L

Form (All Stars): D L

Berekum Arsenal players to watch: Akwasi Acheampong, Samuel Yaw Owusu, Thomas Siaw Asare

All Stars players to watch: Daniel Bomfa, Robert Dabuo, Michael Ocansey

Prediction: Berekum Arsenal 2:0 All Stars

LEN CLAY: AshGold SC- Kotoko

Matches between Ashgold and Kotoko are always fiercely contested. Written-off at the start of the season, Ashgold has proved critics wrong by winning their first two games. Kotoko on the other hand do not seem to have discovered the perfect blend of players. In the end, it will boil down to a match of brains between David Duncan and Paa Kwesi Fabien. I tip Ashgold to pull a narrow victory.

Form (Ashgold): W W

Form (Asante Kotoko): D W

Ashgold players to watch: Fatau Dauda, Addoquaye Addo, Nii Tagoe

All Stars players to watch: Gideon Baah, Kabiru Imoro, Mutalabi Mohammed

Prediction: Ashgold SC 2:1 Kotoko

 ESSIPON: Eleven Wise-Great Olympics

Potentially, this would be a game beyond the reach of Great Olympics. However Olympics are a team that cannot be beaten easily. Kotoko could not beat them with an extra player. Kessben FC huffed and puffed before breaken the spirit of the Wonder Club. I expect Olympics to come out of Essipon with at least a draw.

Form (Eleven Wise): D L

Form (Great Olympics): D L

Eleven Wise players to watch: Samuel Ayew Yeboah, James Bisue, Yusif Nurudin

All Stars players to watch: Muntari Tagoe, Malik Akowua, Eric Adjei

Prediction: Eleven Wise 2:2 Great Olympics
