I write this piece with a heavy heart. If reports from Angola are anything to go by, then the level of savagery in Angola is getting to record proportions.
As if the brutal attack on Togo’s national team by FLEC members was not enough, savages in Angola’s security services have allegedly taken to beating up Ghanaians. One of Ghana’s key cheerleaders; Obuor is said to have been dragged out of the stands and delivered a hefty beating. They took his famous cheer pot, smashed it and asked him to keep his mouth shut.
Fiifi Tackie, a journalist of Radio Gold Ghana has also been reportedly beaten up. According to reports, uncivilized idiots within the Angolans Security Forces stomped on and battered him. What did Fiifi do? He was on his way to the hotel of the Black Stars when the security men stopped him. They refused him entry even after presenting his accreditation.
The barbaric security men begun pounding him and whisked him away to some unknown destination. It was only after Ghana threatened to withdraw from the Orange African Cup of nations, Angola 2010 that Fiifi was released a bruised and battered man. Whatever Fiifi or Obuor might have done, it simply does not guarantee anyone beating them up.
My heart goes out to Fiifi, Obuor and any victim of this kind of stupidity. I will hope that the Black Stars will take inspiration from this treatment and give the Angolans a resounding defeat in their quarter-final encounter.
I do hope the Government of Ghana will not stand aloof. Ghana must look into this matter and where neccesary claim compensation for the victims or just let the chips fall where they may!
