We returned from a month-long break to some interesting games on Match Day 20. A win by Real Tamale United and Hearts of Oak; a draw by King Faisal and Wa All Stars’ loss to B.A. Stars have thrown the relegation battle into top drive.
SOME MATCH DAY HIGHLIGHTS
DORMAA [Aduana 0-0 Liberty Professionals]: Aduana did not raise any hairs by drawing with Liberty except their fans who expressed anger over the defending champion’s lethargic performances in recent weeks. So heated was the argument between fans and players that, eye reports have it hat CHAN coach Herbert Addo had to chase off a taunting fan with a butcher’s knife. Nothing can be taken away from Liberty with Kevin Koukou and Michael Helegbe playing some good football to contain Aduana FC.
ACCRA [Hearts 2-1 Mighty Jets]: Abraham Annan’s run of good form continued with a beautifully scooped ball over goalkeeper Frank Andoh. Uriah Asante added the second when he tapped in the ball which came from a beautiful counter attacking move. Winfred Dormon scored his second goal in consecutive games when he headed home a corner kick to pull one goal back for the Tudu-based team. The score line notwithstanding, Mighty Jets gave a good account of themselves. U-20 star Aaron Amoah was outstanding in midfield for Mighty Jets.
SUNYANI [B.A. Stars 1-0 Wa All Stars]: B.A. Stars may be relegation-threatened, but they will not go down easily. Veteran goalkeeper James Nanor stood between All Stars and goals, helping B.A. Stars to contain All Stars’ pressure. It was against the run of play though when Kwaku Essien, a one time MVP for the premier league, found Prince Atakora Gyimah with a beautiful pass. Gyimah took his chance well to earn B.A. Stars what might be an unnecessary 3 points.
BEKWAI [New Edubiase 1-1 Kotoko]: Title contenders, New Edubiase, will not be pushovers in their own backyard. Seconds after Alex Asamoah fired the away team into the lead, Morro Ibrahim replied with a thunderbolt of a shot which was too hot for Isaac Amoako to handle.
TAMALE [Real Tamale United 2-0 Heart of Lions]: Prior to this game, the Lions defence seemed invincible and were certainly not ready to breakdown to the comparatively weak attack of Real Tamale United. Lions did not know what hit them as RTU piled up the pressure on from the blast of the referee’s whistle. Even after wing back Mohammed Hassan gave RTU the lead, the RTU’s pressure will not die down. It did not come as a surprise as Lions defender Patrick Andoh scored an own goal in the dying embers of the first half.
