Group B of the Glo 8 tournament kicked off at the Essipong Stadium. Dwarfs drew 1-1 with AshantiGold in the first game. Both clubs scored from the penalty spot. AshantiGold came out to dominate the game from the beginning and even when their defender Ibrahim Aziz was sent off for a poor tackle, their performance did not drop. Attacking midfielder Abdul Yussif and Ivorian forward Didier Kore were the chief tormentors of the Dwarfs defense.
Dwarfs on the other hand came out as a team which was being built. They tried playing as a compact unit on and off the ball, but their lack of bite upfront cost them. Captain Bismark Aseidu wasted all the chances that fell to the Cape Coast-based team.
In the second game of the group, Libery Professionals and Medeama SC played an exciting game. Liberty got off to a flying start when striker Ibrahima Kamara scored an early goal for the Dansoman-based club. But Medeama SC’s wing play was too much for the Liberty defense as they rode on the wings to equalise through Hans Coffie.
The Tarkwa-based club continued to hound the Liberty goal and their efforts paid off when substitute Tanko Mohammed and Hans Coffie scored a quick fire double in the second half to clinch the maximum three points at stake.
