Ghana Glo Premier League: Match Day 8 Summary and Statistics

[1] MATCH DAY 8 SUMMARY

25 goals were scored on Match Day 8 – 20 were scored at home and 5 were away goals. 4 braces were scored. 2 of the 25 goals were scored from the penalty spot, adding the total penalty tally to 19 after 64 games this season. Wa All Stars had not conceded or lost at home until the stingy Accra Hearts of Oak visited them. This leaves Liberty Professionals as the only team which has not conceded at home yet.  3 of the 6 goals scored by Aduana so far were converted from the penalty spot. The last 3 goals Aduana scored came from penalties. Wassaman United were fortunate to have escaped a repeat of the 10-0 beating they received from Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the 1964/65 season.

Strikers Emmanuel Clottey, Nathaniel Asamoah and Ahmed Toure sent a message to Black Stars coach Goran Stevanovic by grabbing a brace each.

[7.4] Season Best Attacking Clubs

Berekum Chelsea are hot on the trail of Asante Kotoko in the race for the best attacking team with just 2 goals separating them. The defending champions (Berekum Chelsea) have found their scoring boots since the arrival of Coach Van der Plume a month ago. Medeama’s back to base coach Bashir Hayford must have returned from his short leave. This was evident as Medeama found the net four times this week to join the race for the best scoring team.

[7.5] Season’s Best Defensive Clubs

With just about a quarter of the competition done, coaches must be wondering what it will take to break down the Accra Hearts of Oak defense down. Philip Boampong, Samuel Nzemaba, Bobie Ansah and Osei Bonsu have denied some of the best strikers in the league this season their most important craving – GOALS!!!!! The story is not the same for Bechem Utd who have collected the ball 19 times from their post. Hearts of Oak may be the best overall defensive team, but Liberty Professionals are the best on home grounds. Three national goalkeepers – Akwasi Acheampong, Patrick Antwi and Daniel Adjei have made sure that Liberty are unbeatable at home.

[7.6] Goal Supremacy

Goal Supremacy measures the real number of goals owned by a club per game. Goal supremacy is estimated by taking the difference between goals scored and goals conceded and dividing by the number of matches played.

By the end of Match Day 8, Asante Kotoko remain at the top of the goal supremacy league with a surplus of 10 goals (1.2 goals per game) to spare. It looks like Berekum Chelsea will give Asante Kotoko a goo chase this season as they have move up to second place on the goal supremacy table. Whereas Kotoko’s supremacy is derived mainly from their Babayara home grounds, Berekum Chelsea have piled the positive goal difference both at home and on the road.
