Ghana Glo Premier League: Match Day 9 Summary and Statistics

[1] MATCH DAY 9 SUMMARY

A five-team race to the top is beginning to form as the season grows. Asante Kotoko, hearts of Oak, Berekum Chelsea, Mysterious Dwarfs and Wa All Stars look like they will rub each other all the way to the finishing line. 11 goals were scored on Match Day 9; 7 by home teams and 4 by away teams. On the goal king front, in-form Louis Agyeman knocked harder on the Black Stars door with a brace; making it three goals in 2 games and jumping to second place on the goal king chart.

[4] TOP PERFORMERS

The scoring form of Medeama striker Louis Agyeman continues. Not only has the former Accra Hearts of Oak defender turned striker netted 2 braces in 9 games, but he has scored  3 goals in the last 2 games. Wa All Stars’ winger Frank Sarfo Gyamfi continued to prove that he is a player in form as he mesmerized the Wassaman Utd on their own home grounds with some classy performances. Edubiase goal keeper Eric Nii Baah came face-to-face with the best attacking duo in the league – Ahmed Toure and Nathaniel Asamoah – and came home with a clean sheet.

[7.3] Performance Sequence (Clean Sheets and Scoring Form)

So far, it appears other club coaches cannot find a way around the Hearts of Oak defense. 7 clean sheets in 9 games is a strong enough statement to the rest of the clubs that they are going to have to up their game to beat Hearts of Oak. Interestingly, while Hearts of Oak are excelling in the rear guard action, they have failed to score in 4 out of the 9 games they have played so far. Liberty Professionals is another club that will not concede goals especially at home.

[7.4] Season Best Attacking Clubs

Berekum Chelsea and Medeama SC are two goals away from cancelling Kotoko’s goals lead. On home grounds, Kotoko and Medeama have the most lethal attack with 10 goals scored. Wa All Stars and Berekum Chelsea however do not need the home advantage to score goals. Both clubs have scored 6 goals on the road, making them the fiercest attack in away games. It is interesting to note that Bechem Utd have been unable to score in away games.

[7.5] Season’s Best Defensive Clubs

As discussed above [7.3], Hearts of Oak have constructed a megalith in front of their gaol. Even at times when they have lost a defender to the red card, Hearts of Oak were unbeatable.

[7.6] Goal Supremacy

Goal Supremacy measures the real number of goals owned by a club per game. Goal supremacy is estimated by taking the difference between goals scored and goals conceded and dividing by the number of matches played.

Berekum Chelsea are now joint leaders with Asante Kotoko on the goal supremacy league with a surplus of 9 goals (1 goals per game) to spare.  The performance of Kotoko this season is no doubt better than last season, but if they do not solve their terrible away performance, they might end up only flattering to deceive their seeming revived fan base.

[7.7] Form Guide [Last 5 games]

Berekum Chelsea, Aduana and Dwarfs have avoided losses in the last 5 games. Wassaman Utd will be lucky to stay in the league with this win-less run. Management and technical team of Medeama must be asking themselves why this inconsistent run of alternating wins and losses in the last 5 games.
